Serving on a Town board, commission, or committee is a rewarding way for civic-minded residents to shape local policy. These dedicated volunteers provide invaluable advice to the Town Council and staff, ensuring our government remains effective, responsive, and truly "by the people."

Note: Each board, commission, or committee has its own residency requirements, as shown here:

Board of Zoning Appeals & Planning Commission: Town Resident
Accommodations Tax Advisory Board: Town resident or owner/employee of an Irmo business in the Hospitality and Lodging Industry
Events Committee: Town residents, owner/operator of a business located in Irmo, or a resident of Lexington Richland School District 5
Okra Strut Commission: Town residents, owner/operator of a business located in Irmo, or a resident of Lexington Richland School District 5

All commission, committee, and board members must adhere to the following:

Members shall not hold public office as an elected official at the time of their appointment or at any other time during their term
Each member shall serve at the discretion of the Town Council
Members shall serve without compensation throughout the duration of their appointment but may be reimbursed for applicable expenses incurred on official duty, with authorization from the Town Council.
